joining form

Join Us!

Who can join? Well, it's easier to say who can't join. We would like you to be at least fourteen years old, and we aren't allowed to enrol anyone banned under Section 21 of the 1968 Firearms Act from having access to firearms or ammunition. Other than that, we're more than happy to have you, no matter what your level of experience is or which discipline you want to shoot. And no, you don't have to be an Old Silhillian - although the club was originally formed by and for Solihull School old boys, non-old boys, known as VPs, have the same set of rights and duties as anyone else in the club and the distinction only lives on in the format of one of our internal competitions.

But I don't know how to shoot?!

That's Ok. We were all beginners once, and we all had to start somewhere. We're more than happy to teach you all you need to use the range safely, teach you how to hit the target, and smooth out the initial learning curve. We have the services of a qualified coach, and can also provide rifles, air pistols and the various associated kit you will need to progress in your chosen discipline. Be warned, however - shooting is not a sport in which you ever stop learning!

Elderly or Disabled Shooters

Target shooting as a sport involves absolutely nothing in the way of running around and hence may be of particular interest to those with mobility impairments or who are simply finding that age and injuries from other sports are beginning to catch up with them. Here at the Old Silhillians, we can offer step-free access into the range and plenty of on-site parking, while our Thursday morning Air Pistol session is a quiet, relaxed shoot aimed at our more mature members. The main OSA site, of which we are an integral part, offers flat access into the bar and a wheelchair-accessible loo.
